Imperfections and wearing a mask: decryption.
Sebum? Yes ! But not too much …
Produced by the sebaceous glands, sebum is deposited on the surface of the dermis, providing it with an oily film which plays a protective role. So, when its production is well regulated, sebum is beneficial for our skin.
But when it is produced in too large quantities, it will have difficulty flowing through the pores of the skin, to the point of blocking them. Trapped, its accumulation will then be responsible for the appearance of pimples and blackheads
The mask is not the skin's friend
Wearing a mask is now part of our daily lives. Essential to protect yourself from Coronavirus, it can nevertheless cause skin disorders.
Repeated rubbing of the mask causes redness and irritation. To protect itself, the skin will then increase its production of sebum. If this production becomes too high, the pores of the skin become clogged, and pimples and blackheads appear.
In addition, the increase in heat and humidity between the mask and the skin will promote bacterial development, also favoring the appearance of pimples.
Finally, be aware that under the mask, the pH is also disturbed with a less acidic environment which is then responsible for bacterial development.
For all these reasons, the mask is the new culprit for imperfections since 2020: a return to adolescence for some of us... at any age!
